Tangshan earthquake

Tangshan earthquake of 1976, also called Great Tangshan Earthquake, on July 28, 1976, with a magnitude of 7.5, which nearly razed the Chinese coal-mining and industrial city of Tangshan, located about 68 miles (110 km) east of Beijing. The death toll, thought to be one of the largest in recorded history, was officially reported as 242,000 persons, but it may have been as high as 655,000. At least 700,000 more people were injured.

The provisional Irish Republican

In 1969, demanding British withdrawal from Northern Ireland but differing on tactics, the IRA split into two factions: officials and provisional. Officials sought independence through peace, while the provisional used violence to further its efforts, which resulted in an estimated 1,800 deaths, including more than 600 civilians. As the Provisional IRA and other paramilitary groups waged an increasingly violent campaign and the British Army retaliated, the period known as the "Troubles" roiled the region and beyond for nearly 30 years.

Austria-Hungary War

In the final week of July 1914, after a decade of confrontation and near misses, mounting tensions between the two main European alliance blocs finally came to a head. Seizing on the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand as a pretext.

-Week 9 Do Now- Learning politics should be compulsory to learn in school.

We learn many things at school but sometimes we don't learn about politics. Some people are really into politics but others aren't. Politics are very important to our country because there what helps our country work. If we didn't have politics then our country would be very unstable and lawless. Learning them or how to make them or something like them could be very useful and could give students more education about how our country works.

Another reason for why we should learn about them is because it gives you the advantage if you get a job; the job could be anything but some jobs you may need to learn about politics and different policies to be able to go with the flow of your colleges. Different jobs come with different responsibility's but I don't know everything about them.

-Hurumanu 2

For a few weeks near the end of the term we have been looking at policies. My team and I have been working on these slides to present to the year 7s, 8s and 9s of our Kahui. Basically we had to present our ideas of different policies that we liked and should be able to make a difference to our school. I liked some of the other groups policies more then my groups but everyone presented well!

I enjoyed this topic very well because Iv'e learnt about polices before and I've even visited the beehive in Wellington!

-Week 9 Do Now- Being able to be confident when public speaking is an important life skill.

Being able to speak in public without feeling forced or scared is amazing, for some speaking in public is not easy at all. I have done many speeches in front of many people so I'm not scared about mucking up or missing a sentence or anything.
